Who Is Lost Companion?

Hi, first of all I want to Thank YOU for reading my blog and being a part of my world.  I am a 28-year-old woman with a lot to share. I started this blog when I quit drinking nearly two years ago. This art-form has given me the opportunity to put my thoughts and experiences into words.

I hope I continue to grow but most importantly, I hope I can find my purpose in life.

I want to be able to give to the world! For now, it’s though words.

I wanted to pop in and thank you for the like on “Dealing With The Seductress – Addiction” and for the follow… I enjoyed your blog and wish you all the best. This isn’t an easy road for you… one step and one day/moment at a time 🙂

  2. Hi there. Two things: thank you for the follow….and more importantly, nice to meet you! I’m enjoying your blog and felt compelled to tell you – you can do this. One moment at a time becomes a minute, an hour, a day (well, you get the picture!) Just take that one moment at a time. God bless you on your journey – thank you for sharing it with others!

  3. connorarnold says:

Hey there, thank you so much for the follow! I’m new to this but I think what you’re writing is really compelling. Good luck!

  4. Sandy Sue says:

Thank you for visiting my site and deciding to follow along. I’ve read through some of your blog and see how hard this road is. Congratulations for being here now.

  5. kanzensakura says:

thank you for the follow and the like. I am now 31 years clean and sober. I wanted to live long enough to finally outlive the time of my addictions. It was hard and sometimes, it was even just one step at time. You are going through the process and you will make it. Those of us who follow this blog are behind you. Keep up the work, no matter how bloody you get. You’ll back at sometime and be glad you did.

    • Outliving your addiction is a great goal! Thank you so much for your words of wisdom. Your support helps so much and knowing there are others out there who struggle like me helps so much! It means the world to me that you are fallowing my blog! THANK YOU!

  6. windhound says:

Thank you for finding and following my Blog. I hope it makes you smile. Contact with Nature and animals has shown me that life is indeed all about individual experience. We all see and feel the world differently and because of this we all make a contribution even if we don’t always understand what that is. When someone asks me what I do I say I enjoy my self and I have discovered that this makes it so much easier for others to enjoy the joy in me too. Loving myself without judgement is a work in progress but that too is the first step in finding true love. Living is one thing but being aware that you are alive, that is something else again. Keep on writing your truth.

    • The first step to finding unconditional love is loving yourself without judgement AND Living is one thing but being aware you are alive is another! Two great things I needed to hear, thank you!

I would like to follow your blog but I can’t find out how to do this.

Did you know you can put a “Follow” widget on your side bar? Hover your cursor over your blog name at the left top. When you see the window open up, go down to Widgets. Look for the “Follow” widget and drag it to your side bar. I put mine at the top.

  8. robin claire says:

You don’t seem to have any “about” page that I can find on this blog. Why don’t you put something about yourself on your “About” page? I would love to know more about you and what you have in mind for your blog.
Go to “Pages” — “All Pages” — find the “About” page. Edit. And put something in there. You can even rename the About page to whatever you would like it to be. I changed my “About” page title to “Who Am I?”.

  9. Thank you for stoppying by my blog and following! I hope I can post things you’ll enjoy and which will bring you a gift.

I’m sorry about your Dad and your sufferings! Talk to me anytime (at my contact the author page). Because I am a Christian, you know I’ll say that what we both need is forgiveness, and that Jesus Christ died in our place and rose again, conquering sin and death for us both. I’m saying this because you’re genuine in your writing, and so I believe I need to be too. My words are very imperfect, but what He did for us – in reconciling us to a holy God – is TOTALLY PERFECT!

    Wishing you well!!!!!!!
    Maria

  10. Just wanted to say thank you for visiting The Mindful Mum. I’m 10 years sober in January. 10 years ago I would never in a million years have believed such a thing could ever, ever be. I wish you every success on your journey, it is so worth it x

Do you go by the name Leslie? Also, I would like to follow your blog but there doesn’t seem to be a “Follow Blog” widget on it yet. If you need help with that you can e-mail me to help you. Just go to my blog and contact me through my “Contact Me” Page found at the top of my blog.
Thank you for visiting my blog.

  19. Thank you for the follow at Upgradual. And my condolences about your father. You are on your own steadily upward trend, it seems. Good for you. Believe in yourself.

  20. I am amazed by your raw honesty. It’s what anyone in recovery needs. As a medical social worker, & writer, I commend your healthy form of catharsis that not only serves you but benefits so many others who don’t know where to find those healthy pressure release valves. Writing bravely and honestly as you do is a life raft to get you through those rocky rouh waters, and a way to lay back and savor those peaceful, simple moments. I have someone in mind about your age who I’d love to show your blog. You have much in common and I think she may find some inspiration in your journey. Keep writing…I’ll keep reading!

    • Wow, that’s amazing. Thank you so much. Given my bout with depression, anxiety and addiction in life this has become my outlet. I would love to read another’s blog… would you please send me their name or link.

Thank you so much for your support! I needed to read this today!!!!

      • The young woman I have in mind does not have a blog…yet…I’ve been encouraging her to start one as she has been journal writing since she could write. She’s still on the fence about it, but I was hoping if he saw your blog, it might empower her start one for herself and see that it’s a great way to find a safe community of support with those who care and those who’ve been there, or are going through it all right now. Be strong when you can’t and when you feel weak, write! Pour it out. My motto is always, when all else fails, take a nap. It’s sounds silly, but there’s something to be said for the phrase “sleep on it”. I’ll keep reading…you keep writing…Peace

  21. fetixuyan16 says:

Wow,. am speechless when I’m reading your blog, you have a good skill in writing your own story, I enjoy reading it,, then, I’m so sorry for your father.. hope you always get a happpines and success in your life,, keep spirit.. 🙂

    • Thank you so much. I really appreciate your support. I think, if I do indeed tell my own story well, it’s because I need to be honest to the core somewhere and this is an amazing place to do it. How lucky I am I started this blog over a year and a half ago when I first got sober. I am being reminded I have overcome a lot in life and the events in my life will only make me stronger.

Thank you again for your support, you made my evening!

  28. You are a strong woman. I applaud your strength and the path you’ve chosen.

    • Thank you very much! I don’t feel too strong today but I have to keep going. Your support will help me today 🙂

      • I don’t know if you saw the movie “Finding Nemo”, but if you did, there was a fish named Dori in it who believe that all you needed to do is “just keep swimming, swimming, swimming”….a very wise fish, if you ask me. 🙂

  29. I just wanted to say thanks for liking some of my blogs. I’ve read through some of yours and noticed that I’m not the only person who seems to think you could write if you wanted. One of my agent’s other clients blogs and her book is about caregiving. She was the caregiver for her mom and dad who had alzheimers and dementia ect. It’s not all doom and gloom or anything, lots of happy memories and stuff. But you might want to look at her blog http://www.lifeaftercaregiving.wordpress.com. Maybe it or she can help or understand better than the rest of us bloggers. I didn’t mean for this to be so long. I couldn’t write before, now I won’t shut up. lol Anyway, thanks again. 🙂

  30. Just wanted to say thanks for the follow. You have a very thoughtful, sincere and movingly written blog here. Glad to reciprocate. And I’m really sorry about your Dad.

    Respects

    Michael

I’ll be praying the Lord gives you the much needed strength to take each step, in an incredibly hard journey. Know that you are NEVER alone, you can write me anytime, as I’m sure most the people commenting would say, just know that I mean it. But most of all, remember, you are never lost, you are only confused on which way to go! Look up, before you look anywhere else! and God Bless you, you are a warrior for trying!

Thanks for the stop by. Surrounding yourself with that which gives you peace and rest is important. Taking photographs is very soothing. It’s like seeing our mind’s eye view of what we most want to see. Look up into the heavens when the world around you gets you down.

    • Thank you Ms.Faye! This is amazingly therapeutic!!! Blogging takes a life of it’s own. It’s parts of my inner-being being able to have a place to go and the world takes it…what a gift!

Hey there – thanks for stopping by (and following). Loss is so difficult – of family, friends, ourselves – and sometimes I don’t know if there’s a way out. But writing, art, the goal of grad school offer something of a trail, for me, too. Best of everything in your search.

Thanks for stopping by and following my blog. I recently lost my father as well and know at least a little something about what you are going through. Don’t believe that depression ever lasts forever, because it doesn’t. I know …

Looking forward to following your journey … I hope I might be able to pass along a few helpful thoughts now and then.

  52. Wow- I just read some of your story and what a blessing you are in sharing it. Thank you for following Virtuous Housewife. You’ve brought it home to me that it’s important to be real and honest in who we are, instead of living superficially. Thank you for sharing your journey!

  62. Ms. Meka says:

Thank you for following me. I will try to read more of your blog too. Happy small business Saturday.

  63. Thank you for looking at my art site. My reaction to all of the addiction madness in my life is:
    1. Find your passion.
    2. Follow your passion.
It took forty nine years and several false starts to finding my passion, so now I am VERY thankful to live it.

  64. RichStine says:

    Addiction.
When shedding bad habits, it can be unbearably painful. Not because we have thin skin, and not because we are weak.
It is painful, because we are raw. We see with new eyes, hear with new ears, think with a new brain. Sort of like being born again. And for some of us, it is exactly like being born again. (Christianity-version, aside. Even those who are not of any particular faith, and have fought addiction and won, know this feeling of being born again. I only mention the faith because the words, ‘born again’ are so intertwined with much of it.)
The brain is the biggie in all of this.
What happens when you no longer see through that bottle, that glass? Reality sets in. So does self-pity. The bigger part that really nabs and clutches with ruthless talons, is guilt (not to be mistaken for self-pity.) The horror of what is lost, destroyed—relationships, money, & time—from our choice to abuse alcohol. As addicts, we are more likely to allow this to happen, abusing vs using alcohol.
Relationships are a delicate thing for us, in the wide-awake, sober world.
One thing to be cautious of, is the relentless urge to forge replacement relationships of those lost.
A sure way to slip back into looking through a glass or bottle darkly= refusal to make the raw, excruciating, but very doable journey of self discovery.
Bad news is, we often don’t like what we see, eyes wide open. Painful to realize much of the chaos & pain & loss we suffer, we also forced upon others.
Good news is, we don’t have to repeat it. We can get to know ourselves, establish a relationship of 1.
If you do not love yourself, you cannot love your neighbor, or anyone else. You can try, but it won’t work.
You can’t love yourself, if you don’t know yourself.

The commitment is a challenge, but the healing and strength, amazing.

Your Blog name, “Lost Companion”, is a triumph, in my opinion, of that spirit willing to soar.
Keep up the good work, and keep blogging.

    Best,
    RS

    • Wow RS, thank you for taking the time to read my blog and write to me. Thank you for enlightening me with your thoughts. I appreciate your thought on my name, lostcompanion, I love it!

      • RichStine says:

Pleasure all mine! There’s so many blogging…I really had no idea that blogging is as popular as it is. Many, like my blog, are abysmally put-together. Yours, and a fine, smart, handful, are very much worth the read.
Of course, it’s always a huge plus with an interesting & catchy name. Mine is boorish. Which I may or may not fix.
Always up for pointers and suggestions…
        Best to you in 2013.
        RS

  65. I’ve come to thank you kindly for liking my recent illustration post and for following my blog. I hope that my content can provide some kind of inspiration for you as you go through life’s struggles. I wish you all the best and I hope I don’t disappoint you 🙂

  66. I have just begun following your blog. The first few words I read of it… made me read the words again … the ones about ‘friends here, a place to come to ..to write, no one else to talk to.’ Our life is completely different, I know … but, we both still know pain. Just know you have one more person who is pulling for you to succeed in life, to go forward. I just wanted to let you know that I am here, too. Granny Gee/Gloria My main blog is at … happycolorsandgrannygee.blogspot.com , and I put my stories here, at WordPress.

    • Hi aa, thank you for reading my blog. I am sorry about your wife…she is in my thoughts. I am not going to meetings out here. Meetings out here does not equal sobriety. I will check out your post. Thank you for reading my blog.

Thank you for following my blog – it lead me to yours, and I’m finding yours very interesting and beautiful at the moment. Keep up the good and interesting work.

  70. Usually when I’m down, I read poems and quotes. This one I just read and like to pass on to you:

“to love life, to love it even
when you have no stomach for it
    and everything you’ve held dear
crumbles like burnt paper in your hands,
your throat filled with the silt of it.
When grief sits with you, its tropical heat
thickening the air, heavy as water
    more fit for gills than lungs;
when grief weights you like your own flesh
only more of it, an obesity of grief,
you think, How can a body withstand this?
Then you hold life like a face
between your palms, a plain face,
no charming smile, no violet eyes,
and you say, yes, I will take you
    I will love you, again.”
    ― Ellen Bass

You have a lot of people here for you so don’t give up!

  71. ottomummy says:

Thank you for following my blog. Looking at the above, you are not alone. I honestly believe you must carve your own life out of this world, and have to (nicely) live for yourself, not for others. Carry on doing what makes you happy – it’s the only way to get through life. Much love, Carol

  72. mimijarone says:

Thanks for stopping by and liking my blog. Keep writing and learning about yourself. You can find joy in 2013! Love the poem Carrie Ann posted.

  73. Thanks for the follow, I hope you found something at the blog that could be an encouragement. There is much peace to be found when we’ve lost ourselves in service to others. My husband stuggled for almost four years with despression and suicide and found his redemption in our children, focusing his attention, affection and energy into their wellbeing. Many people turn inward trying to understand themselves and find the solution to their lack of peace, but more often than not the answer lay outside of ourselves. It is amazing how our own pain is healed as we seek to heal the pain of someone else. I hope this will be a year of peace and fulfillment for you.

  74. Hey there! I just wanted to drop you a line, I nominated you for one of these wordpress awards, Very inspiring blogger.

Hi there. I just want to thank you for liking and following my blog. Your LIKE led me to you and your honest and courageous sharing of your story. I’m looking forward to following your journey and supporting you in the best way I know — prayer. The next time I pray I will tell God about you (although I’m sure He already knows) and that I’m rooting for you and your triumph in your personal battle. I hope you find your way, your strength, and your hope in the God of hope. If my blog helps to encourage you, I would be very grateful. Keep in touch.

    • Thank you for prayer!

What a beautiful comment you left me; it has filled me with peace. Your blog is encouraging and beautiful. You seem like a beautiful woman, thank you for your love!

  79. I have been sober since Feb 1998 and gone through so much life (including the death of my parents, btw). Someone I know says “It gets better. Than it gets real. Then it gets different. Then it gets real different.” I’ve found that to be true. I see my life as divided into the Before and the After and in the After I am no longer a spectator. I am present. I show up for my life. I rarely feel lonely these days. You’ll never be alone again, that’s one of the first things I heard and it’s been true for me for nearly 15 years.

  80. Just spent some time reading your blog: you have some massive issues to deal with…more courage and power to you for facing them head on. Sending you healing light…peace FatW

  81. Keep Writing! I’ve nominated you for a Reality Blog Award. Go to my blog for all of the information. See you there – Ilene

Thank you for all the “Likes” on my blog. Tho we both are going through something different, it is very real to both of us. A mind numbing struggle, that we have to conquer minute by minute.

  84. Thank you for following my blog. I would like to know more about you – this page doesn’t contain information – would you care to share? You seem to be going through a lot. I wish I could offer you words of comfort. I do believe that life gets better and easier with time – you have to hang in there. 🙂

  94. Your blog is captivating and such a good way to give back through your words. I hope you find it fulfilling and helpful in recovery. I stopped drinking years ago and got a brand new, much-better life. I never thought I could live without drinking. Now I am sorry I wasted so many years in a haze of alcohol. But you are young yet and have much to look forward to. I wish you courage and strength.

    • I am working on a much better life right now 🙂 I realize it takes time and time is what I have right now. Thank you for your encouragement and strength friend, what a wonderful support you are!

  95. Thank you so much for liking my Wayne Dyer quote – He has got me through some bad times in the past. And thank you for following my blog. I follow yours back. Take care and best wishes

Greetings, Lostcompanion. Thank you for following my blog. I look forward to reading more on your blog, too, and further communication with you.

I just caught a typo at the end of your “About Me” info. “…For now, it’s though words.”

I’m guessing you meant “through” words.

Pointed out gently and not as criticism but just a heads up in case you wanted to change it. Feel free to point out any typos on my blog, too! The editor/proofreader in me tries to catch them all, but I miss some, too, catch them later, and go “OH! NO!” 🙂

  97. I just read the piece about finding your father and the beautiful time you had with him as well as the one on religion and abortion. You are a brave, beautiful soul who weaves words that convey who you are. Keep writing, pondering, weaving and expressing who you are…….Peace! Dawn

    • Thank you Dawn, your comment means so much to me! I will keep up what I am doing, I feel like I am really going somewhere. Thank you for your support! Blessings to you my new friend!

Every time I read your posts, I feel a moment of heartbreak that’s only pushed aside by inspiration and motivation. For that reason, I’ve decided to nominate you for the Sunshine Award. You don’t have to accept it, but if you want to here is the link: http://amapoftheproblematique.wordpress.com/2013/01/28/a-win-that-came-my-way/

    Dear Fellow WordPresser,

Thanks for recently liking one of my posts on SharingMom.com. I just wanted to let you know that in the near future, I will not be showing up on your WordPress Reader Feed or on Freshly Pressed. I would like to add plug-ins to my blog to make the site more user friendly and in order to do that WordPress requires that I host the blog elsewhere. The bummer is that once I change hosts I will no longer show up on your WordPress feeds.

Since I have written articles and posted recipes that you have liked, I would be honored to have you subscribe to my blog, SharingMom.com, so I don’t lose touch with you once I make the change. That way you won’t miss the great info and recipes that are scheduled to post in the coming weeks.

I am also working on a free e-book with 10 gluten-free, dairy-free snacks and desserts. When it is ready to go live, I will post it on the site. As a subscriber, you’ll be the first to know!
Thanks for joining me. Looking forward to hearing from you soon!

Hi, thank you for following my blog so that I could find yours. I’ve read through some of your posts and wish to give you a big hug if we were in the same room. You’ve been through so much and become so strong. Please, hang in there. — Pinkie

  108. Thanks for the follow and the like.

I read some of the posts on your blog, and I can’t quite grasp what your whole story is, but I can tell that you’ve felt more sorrow than most people I know. It’s inspiring that you’ve had the strength to hold on, and even go so far as to put it all into art.

It always gets better. Just remember that!

And good luck with your writing. Good luck with life, too! Cheers!

Hello My Dear, Thank you for liking my first post and following! I am new to the world of blogging and still trying to figure out the site. I’ve read just a little of your work (“I try to heal” especially spoke to me because it sounds like me) and look forward to reading more. My darling you are headed in the right direction. Alcoholism nearly destroyed one of my family members. Another one made a 180 degree turn early enough and has had, and continues to have, a much better life in sobriety. I had my own demons to overcome as well. You CAN do this!!! I wish you the best my dear. ~Sarah 🙂

Wonderful blog. I have been sober for nearly 29 years. I would have missed out on the last 25+ years of my life had I not admitted my problem and took steps to save myself. In those years, everything from children graduating from college to grandchildren would have been missed, had I not stopped. Anything is possible when you are sober!

  119. Thanks so much for visiting my blog – and for introducing me to yours. You sound like a brave soul.. I wish you much luck, patience and joy!

Hi and thanks for the like and follow of my blog 🙂 I like what I have read so far on yours and can understand some of what you are going through. I was married to a man, who when we met, was two years sober. He told me all about his previous life and the mistakes he had made to give me a fair idea of who he was. We lived together for 10 years before he died, but the last four we found out why his life was becoming so hard now and then, he had ADHD. That explained many things to us and life became easier for all. Myself, well I’ve never been drinking much, but I’ve been smoking for many years. On the positive side I quit some 13 years ago now, even if there is a tug or two sometimes after a smoke, but I can keep away anyway because it’s not worth it 🙂

    • Thank you Anna. I’m sorry your companion passed but thankfully he was able to find out what was wrong. Glad he stayed sober!!! Thank you for telling me your story, you give me hope!!! Peace be with you friend.
